Parker E. Lawton advises businesses through a variety of legal challenges associated with secured lending, commercial finance, corporate structuring, governmental regulation, and employment issues. He has had the pleasure of representing a number of companies in the factoring industry which presents a whole host of issues to get deals done quickly and closed properly. While Parker’s practice focuses on transactional representation, he has gained substantial litigation experience when the demand arises.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Parker co-managed a private equity investment company for several years. The lessons he learned and the skills he developed from that experience have made him a better lawyer and advocate on his clients’ behalf.
The need for legal services boils down to two fundamental questions: what problems need to be addressed in order to achieve a strategic goal and how to best approach the hurdles that stand in the way of accomplishing that objective. Parker’s clients are smart, tenacious and driven. They know what they want to achieve, and his role is to figure out how best to get there. Their vision guides his practice so objectives can be accomplished together. Making that vision a reality is what drives his work.
Lawyers carry a tremendous responsibility in advising clients because our job is to tell them what they either are unaware of or do not want to hear in order to help them avoid problems they did not anticipate. Healthy skepticism and pointed questions avoid landmines in the future. Getting a deal done right means evading a headache tomorrow. Careful planning and due diligence go a long way towards avoiding problems in the first place. Success is measured by getting the right result that serves the clients’ best interests.
